We want to get going! How do we get text on our website?First things first: start off by noting your website password and usernames down where you can find it later - you will need it because all actions on your website starts with logging on with your username and password. A private menu will pop up, allowing you to choose what you want to do. If you want to load text choose …… This will bring up a list of all the pages. Click on the pencil symbol to the left of the page on which you want to work. You will then be taken to the page work area. This is almost exactly like an ordinary MS Word-document. You can now proceed to type in your text. Hint 1 Take a moment or two to get to know your icons. Hover your cursor over all the icons. You have some surprising options like a full page toggle, an icon for inserting text directly from a Word document on your computer and an icon for inserting images. You can undo actions and even re-do them. Links can be added, which is very convenient when you want to add contact web addresses for your guests to book accommodation, etc. Hint 2 Remember to save every 30 minutes or so. Use the big blue right tick mark at the top, towards the right. (You may find that you need to log on after more than an hour on your website. This time-limit is set for protection against cyber lurkers.) Hint 3 Don’t leave the page before storing your text! (Use the big computer screen icon at the top, right corner) We want to change text; we want to add text. How do we do that?Text once written is not permanently fixed: changing the content is no different from writing new content. Your pages work just like ordinary Word documents: you simply log on, choose ‘change pages’ on the pop-up menu, choose the page where you need to add or change text, and then delete, add, re-paragrapgh or do what you need to do. You can also change fonts, letter size and text colour. Note that you have an un-do and a re-do button (at the top left). You can add or delete or change something, and if you don’t like your choice you un-do … and if you change your mind again you simply re-do! We want to paste text form MS Word or an e-mailSimply select the text, and then choose the ‘Paste for Word icon’ (top row, 9th from the right). The selected text will op onto your page. Save and/or store HintPlease use the ‘Paste for Word icon’ when pasting from Word. If you don’t , you still get the text onto your web page, but because the spacing instructions are set differently you’ll have to reset all you spacings, which takes a lot of time. Save your time and use the Word icon! We want the colour of the text to match our theme. Or is black our only option?
No, black is only one of your great many options! At the top of your page towards the right is an A. Clicking on this will give you the basic set of text colours … but there’s more. See at the bottom? The words ‘more colours? This will give you a menu with websafe colours, named colours and a colour picker. Have fun! We want to use italics/ bold / underscoringYou have these options: check the icons at the top: I for italics; B for bold and U for underscore. You can either: Type the text in ordinary format and then select the text you want to apply this formatting Or You can first click on the formatting icon and then start typing We received some lovely messages from friends by e-mail. Can we paste it into our guestbook? That’s the whole idea of having a guest book! Just copy and select the text and paste it. If you want to go creative, fancy up the quotes by laying them out in different fonts, colours and sizes. We do not want to use all the pages. Can we delete pages?Yes, it can be done. We do it for you. Please e-mail us your website address, your website password and a list of the pages you wish to close. It may take a day or two, but we’ll do it asap. How do we add links?
First type in the address e.g. www.OurWeddingPage.co.za Tip The generally accepted rule is to put link text in blue. After typing in the website address, selct the address, go the the A symbol and click on any of the blue shades. Then proceed as above. How do we upload photos?
Can we resize photos?Yes, easily. Simply click on the edge of the photo till the resizing lines appear and draw your photo to the desired size. The photo on our front page isn’t showing!Good news … it’s there, you just don’t see it yet. Bad news … you may have to wait s few minute for the photo on the front page to finally show. This is due to the concept of ‘cache’. It helps to refresh your page and/or to log out and log in again. As long as you don’t panic! The photo is there: it just needs to be sorted into the very complex front page. This happens only the first time when loading your front page photo; after that the pic appears immediately, every time. We don’t really like the frame of our front page. Can we change?Yes of course you can! And in at least three ways: First you can choose a different outer frame by choosing a different template Then you can choose a different inner frame by choosing another frontpage on your pop-up menu. And then you can choose ‘no front page’. This means only your photo framed by the outer frame will appear on the front page. This photo can be resized to fit your page nicely. Hint We actually like this option a lot! Do try it, particularly if you find the inside frame cramps your pic a bit. If you don’t like it, simply re-choose whichever frontpage you prefer. We’ve left it there for you to use decoratively. Load in onto your web pages as any other photo. |
